125,000 SF Adaptive Reuse Development Includes Office and Retail Space
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, January 22, 2019 – Cushman & Wakefield has been selected by Artesia Real Estate to lead the redevelopment, lease and property management of General Assembly, a 125,000 square-foot adaptive reuse project located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“General Assembly promises to be a catalytic development project along the North Tryon corridor and Artesia is excited to lead the transformation of the property into a creative office and retail destination,” said Colin Brothers, Founder, Managing Principal at Artesia. “The City of Charlotte has identified this area as an opportunity corridor and we couldn’t agree more. With its close proximity to Uptown, breweries and restaurants and ideal location across from light rail, we hope General Assembly will be a part of North Tryon’s evolution into a thriving commercial district. We are proud to be working with Cushman & Wakefield and RedLine Design to bring this project to life.”
Kris Westmoreland will oversee leasing, and Josh Hammer, on the Asset Services team lead by Wendy Monroe, will serve as the property manager. Additionally, the owner has retained Cushman & Wakefield’s Project Development Services team, led by Andrew Laing, Chris Dell and Brian Beaver, to lead the extensive redevelopment design and construction. The property is slated for completion in late 2019.
“We’re elated to be part of the General Assembly team, as adaptive reuse projects are such remarkable undertakings adding incredible value and uniqueness to our city,” Laing said. “General Assembly is a one-of-a-kind landmark, preserving Charlotte roots with a reimagined spirit, modern accommodations and an inspiring environment.”
Located at 1801 North Tryon Street, the property includes innovative office and retail space on eight acres with indoor and outdoor areas designed for collaboration. Down the road from the NoDa Brewery and between the Parkwood and 25th Street Blue Line Rail Stations, General Assembly exists at the center of a growing ecosystem — an innovation hub within the North End Smart District and Charlotte’s Applied Innovation Corridor.
“Charlotte’s most iconic creative office and mixed-use destinations mirror the spirit of General Assembly,” Monroe said.
